Baseball Defensive Plays: Base Hit to Center with Runner(s) on Second or Second and Third

In baseball and softball, all nine fielders have defined responsibilities and need to move on every play.

Base hit to center field with a runner(s) on second or second and third, the play goes to home.  

Base Hit to CF with Runner on Second

Play:

Situation: Runner on second or
Runners on second and third
Offense: Base hit to center field
Defense: Play goes to home

Player Responsibilities:

Pitcher: Back up catcher, run around either first base side for left center hits or the third base side for right center hits so the catcher's view is unobstructed during the whole play
Catcher: Cover home
1st base: Move across the infield to cutoff throw to home
2nd base: Check that the runner touches first base and cover first base
3rd base: Check that the runner touches third base and cover third base
Shortstop: Check that the runner touches second base and cover second base
Left: Back up center field
Center: Fields the ball and throws to home (or second, if the ball is hit deep)
Right: Back up center field
Note: The throw to the cutoff man only if necessary, otherwise throw directly to home
